Trainee Impact

There is a need for dentists to teach throughout the career stages from predoctoral students to practicing colleagues.

I would like to teach…

Predoctoral students: Students currently enrolled in one of the four years of the curriculum leading to the DDS or DMD degree.

Where to find these trainees:

  • Colleges/Universities

Qualities of this population:

  • Openness to accepting criticism
  • Desire to learn
  • High level of energy and persistence
  • High IQ and motivation

Postdoctoral trainees: Students who already possess the DDS or DMD degree and are pursuing specialty education in one of the ADA recognized specialties. Also, students may be in combined degree programs or special other activities at a level beyond that of a pre-doctoral student (i.e. information technology).

Where to find these trainees:

  • Colleges/Universities
  • Hospital
  • Community programs

Qualities of this population:

  • Stronger academic skills
  • Motivation toward learning more complex skills and competencies
  • Possession of advanced clinical skills and competencies attained during predoctoral studies
  • Inquisitive mindset already informed by previous educational and real-world practice experience

Allied dental professionals: Professionals who teach in the allied fields such as dental hygiene, dental materials, dental assisting, or other forms of supporting roles for the DDS/ DMD.

Where to find these trainees:

  • Colleges/Universities
  • Hygiene programs
  • Community colleges

Qualities of this population:

  • Interest in helping others and functioning in a supportive capacity
  • Strong desire to be part of an effective healthcare provision team

Continuing education: Providing continuing education to graduated dentists or specialists in their particular fields of interest both in person and online.

Where to find these students:

  • Private/corporate entities

Qualities of this population:

  • Informed and highly motivated students in the course make the educational experience more directly rewarding
  • Opportunity to present and discuss in detail current cutting edge technologies
  • Peer-to-peer communication with more intense feedback and discussion
